Kalkadoon Country.
A utility stop. Mt Isa. Not somewhere we ever dreamed of going! An enormous copper mine towering over the centre of town, we drive passed Bob Katter MPs office on the way to the shops. Coles is much welcomed though, always after days of driving, the promise of fresh food and a replenished pantry! Few and far between, the supermarket is its own character in our road trip adventures. And utilities stops bring other joys. This time – the post office is our best friend. At last the gas struts are in our possession! Long and painful negotiations with Qantas and Cub, and many a heavy camper setup later, we found a friendly camper fix-it guy who was good for a chat and installed the struts as we setup at camp.
Mt Isa was also our rest stop for Pammi’s funeral, the rain was pouring, making for a cosy setup inside the camper, with sushi and tea, we zoomed in. An incredible tribute, Andy heading it up, full of grace and calm. We cried. It felt as though we were there. We could see everyone arriving, hugging, huddling. Momentous emotions in our little road home. Love you Pammi.
