Farewelling Karijini was rough – such a special place, remote location, who knows if we will revisit again! Onwards we go, headed for Exmouth and Ningaloo Reef, we pit-stop at a midway point, Cheela Plains. A working cattle station of 500,000 vast acres with a quaint and tasteful campground, we are greeted by a goanna loping across the dirt track. A perfect spot to power up, solve fridge outage issues, wash clothes of layer upon layer of red dirt, and tuck in to some backgammon. Next morning… Mother’s day surprise! A sunrise walk, cards and speeches, lil’ gift, big brekkie and a phone call with the fam bam back home. All totally unexpected and gorgeous.
