After another day of driving under a covid cloud, downing painkillers to raise energy levels and reduce headaches, Batchelor was a welcome overnighter. Ever hopeful that kids would remain covid-negative in readiness for the family meet-up, we had ensured a productive time in Katherine on the way north. Alex now ‘out of iso’, we could refuel, hit up Coles and refill the water tanks. A lush, green, tropical town, Batchelor is two hours from Katherine and only a 40min drive from Litchfield, so all going well we could get to the family early the next day. News from Van that his luggage had been left in Sydney sent shudders of dismay for him, and pangs of anxiety for us – he was bringing our replacement gas struts from Cub in Sydney, desperately needed! Not for the last time would we blaspheme about bloody Qantas.
